6 Cups to College Mentoring Program

This mentor-based program is designed to help high school students as they transition to college, and early college students as they prepare for careers. We do this by pairing community members with students who would most benefit from assistance with college and career guidance. Mentors and mentees are matched by gender, and when possible, by college major / career interest.

All of our mentors are college graduates and have completed the Stanislaus County Office of Education's volunteer application process, which includes a background check.  Our mentors receive direction and support from our office and we provide them with the information and resources that they need to support your child in his/her transition to college.

6 Cups to College Mentoring Program

The 6 Cups to College mentor program is designed to help high school and early college students in their transition to college.  Students can join the program as early as their junior year in high school and may continue with the program through their sophomore year in college.  Mentors are always matched with students by gender, and when possible, by major or similar career field.  Students are expected to meet with their mentors fact-to-face at least six times over the course of the school year. They may meet at any public place that the student and mentor agree upon. During these meetings students and mentors will discuss career and college exploration, college preparation and application, financial aid, scholarships, and college decisions.

ACT & SAT

The ACT & SAT are college readiness assessment tests that are accepted by most U.S. Colleges.  Please check with the colleges that you are planning to apply to in order to see if they have a preference/requirement for one of these tests over another.  Some students may opt to take both.  If you know you only need to take one of these tests, please devout your time to studying for that test.  Both systems offer practice tests and on-line prep tools designed to help you achieve higher test scores... we strongly encourage you to utilize these tools.  Please ask your counselor for further guidance.

Financial Aid

There are various options available to alleviate the financial burden of college expenses. Firstly, federal aid programs, such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), offer grants, loans, and work-study opportunities based on financial need. These options can significantly reduce the cost of tuition and living expenses.
