Tom Changnon began his career in education as a teacher over 30 years ago.
Formerly Superintendent of Keyes Union School District from 1998-2006, Changnon was elected Superintendent of Schools for Stanislaus County on
November 7, 2006 and sworn into office January 9, 2007. As
Superintendent he will oversee a staff of nearly 900 and a budget of $200
million.
A graduate of Stanford University,
Changnon was drafted by the Houston Astros professional baseball organization
and played minor league ball for two years. While an
arm injury ended his baseball career early, a high school coaching position
after the injury started him on his teaching career.
Tom moved to Stanislaus County in 1975 where he taught at Beyer High School,
Modesto High School and Turlock High School. Changnon holds two Master's
Degrees. His commitment to the education of youth guided him to positions
as Assistant Principal at Turlock Junior High and in 1992 he was hired as the Keyes Elementary
School principal and appointed Assistant Superintendent in 1996. In 2004,
he was named Regional Administrator of the Year by the Association of California
School Administrators.
Promoting Civics Education,
Character Development, Parent Involvement, and Career Technical Education
Programs in the county are areas in which he strongly believes.
Tom Changnon resides in Modesto with wife of 32 years, Dianne, who is a middle
school teacher in the Sylvan Union School District. They have two adult
children, Garrett and Gabrielle.
