About Paterson Independent Study
Patterson Independent study is a
place where students from Patterson,
Westley, Newman and Gustine attend
school. We are a small school
centrally located in Patterson. We
have been in Patterson for over 16
years helping students to catch up
on credits and improve their grades.
Students attend Patterson I.S. for
many different reasons. Some
students come to our school because
they may need to catch up on high
school credits. Some students work
so they can only attend school once
a week. Other students are ill and
need the flexibility of an
Independent Study program. Other
students have been expelled from the
local school and are required to
attend I.S. for the remainder of the
school year. We have students that
stay with our programs for only a
few months, and we have other
students who have been with us for
years. Most students either graduate
from our program or return back to
their school one they are caught up
on credits.
Currently, there are about 105
students who attend Patterson
Independent Study. Each student
attends once a week and meets
individually with his or her
teacher. Mr. Wood is the head
teacher and the other teachers are
Mrs. Bernard, Mr. Spratling and Mrs.
Huston. Students can graduate
through our program. They can
receive a high school diploma as
long as they have earned the
required credits, passed the
California Exit Exam and have met
the 20 hours of community service
obligation. Approximately 25
students graduate from Patterson I.S.
each year.
