The Stanislaus
County Office of Education District Intern
Program offers an alternative certification
pathway for individuals who desire to earn a
Clear Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe
Education Specialist Credential with EL
Authorization while teaching full time.
The Special
Education Intern Program was created in 2003
to meet the critical shortage of special
education teachers in the Stanislaus area.
The district intern program is similar to a
traditional university internship in that
the intern is both a full time teacher and
full time student. In a district intern
program, the school district employs and
delivers the teacher preparation program.
The Special Education Intern Program applies
the concept of the district internship to a
countywide consortium model with Stanislaus
County Office of Education providing a
comprehensive teacher preparation program.
