The No Child
Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) reauthorizes
the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
of 1965, and makes significant changes in
the federal requirements for education.
These changes include increased
accountability for states, school districts,
and schools; greater school choice for
parents with students attending
low-performing schools; more flexibility in
the use of federal funds for states and
local educational agencies (LEAs); and
additional emphasis on reading for students
in the primary grade levels.
