My Experience at Foothill Horizons
By Erin Ovalle, Catherine Everett School, Modesto

I liked Outdoor Ed. because I got to meet students that would be going to my Junior High.  I made a lot of new friends.  Another reason I liked Outdoor Ed was because I learned so much about nature, and how to survive in the wilderness.  I also learned how to appreciate nature more—to not scare the animals or litter or make it hard for animals to live their life.

My favorite part of outdoor education was everything!  But my most favorite part was the night hike.  When we went to the Sky Tower and looked at the stars.  My favorite part about the stars were the Greek myths that we were told.  To this day, I still look for Orion’s belt and the Seven Sisters.

I learned a ton from outdoor ed!  I learned how to make fire, which was probably the coolest thing to do, because we succeeded, in making fire.  I still have the “evidence” on my journal—holes from the ember went through about six pages!  I’m very proud of that!

I also learned about how worms compost food waste.  I learned that it is especially important for people to recycle, if they don’t already, and keep nature spectacular!
