Our annual backpack campaign has a new NAME and a new LOOK! and remains a vital resource for hundreds of homeless and low-income children in Stanislaus County who go back to school each year without any school supplies. With foreclosures, evictions, layoffs, furloughs and unemployment affecting our community, the need for assistance has grown. Together with Volunteers of America's Operation Backpack, we are helping students in Stanislaus County be prepared to thrive in the classroom, stay in school, and build a bright future.
Making a difference is as easy as:
A. Download a grade-specific school supply list
B. Purchase a new backpack and fill it with school supplies. (Please avoid solid blue or red backpacks.)
C. Bring the filled backpack to one of the drop-off locations before July 31, 2019

WHAT IS OPERATION BACKPACK?
Operation Backpack is Volunteers of America's annual campaign to help children in need be prepared and excited for their first day of school. SCOE collaborates with Volunteers of America and collects backpacks and school supplies to support low-income and homeless families in the Stanislaus County area. Since 2008, we have collected over 6,900 backpacks for children in need. New backpacks filled with supplies, and affixed with a completed school supply list can be dropped off at any of the DROP-OFF LOCATIONS now through July 31, 2019.
HOW DO I GIVE A MONETARY DONATION? IS MY GIFT TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
Donate individually in any amount by clicking the PayPal link above. Donations provided thru this link are tax deductible and will be used to purchase school supplies and backpacks for students living in Stanislaus County. Donated backpacks and supplies can also be tax deductible. If you would like to receive a receipt for your contribution, please complete the donor contact information on one of the School Supply Lists and place the form inside your donated backpack. If requested, a receipt will be mailed to you.
I KNOW A CHILD WHO NEEDS A BACKPACK. WHAT CAN I DO?
Stanislaus County Office of Education, Prevention Programs works with Stanislaus County school districts' McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Liaison to provide new backpacks to students in need. If your child, or a child you know, is in need of a backpack please contact the local school district liaison or your school site for more assistance.
