SCOE’s "Fitness
Challenge," now in its third year, is branching out! "I
wanted to do something a little different this year so I
challenged several county superintendents to a County
Office of Education (COE) Fitness Challenge," said
Superintendent Tom Changnon. "With childhood obesity a
growing concern and student physical fitness test
results sluggish, it’s important that adults model
healthy living." This year two COE’s have accepted the
challenge and will join SCOE (San Joaquin and Tuolumne).
For four weeks,
beginning February 4 through March 2, each county office
will conduct a "Fitness Challenge" using a shared point
chart, rules & information and FAQ sheet. SCOE’s Fitness
Challenge will operate the same as in the previous two
years with weekly tracking of team points.
"Participating SCOE staff will earn points that not only
help their team succeed, but this year points will
benefit the entire SCOE organization," said Changnon.
The "Fitness Challenge," which is completely
voluntary, is open to ALL SCOE staff and
students of SCOE programs. The idea behind the
challenge is to have a fun, competitive activity
with a healthy focus. While there
is no obligation or expectation for anyone to
participate -- for those who do -- we promise a
great time!
Here's a quick rundown of how the challenge
works. |
-
Participants are divided into teams by
departments or school
- Each team
has a minimum of five people - there is no
maximum
- Each team
selects a team captain and a team name
- At the end
of each week team members turn in their
points to the team captain - team captains
post the team point averages each Monday
by 5:00 p.m. - questions??? call 238-1709 or
email Judy Leitz at

For four weeks, beginning February 4 and
through March 2, team members will keep a
record of points earned based on a Fitness Point
Chart (see links listed above). Prizes
will be awarded to the top three teams at the
March 11th Board Meeting. In addition, a
Perpetual Fitness Challenge Trophy will go the
first place team! Last year, "Margaret's
Madness," one of the teams from the TLR
Division, repeated their win from the previous
year by earning the most points out of the 32
teams.
Look over the point chart to see just how fun
and easy this activity can be. If your
department/school is interested in
participating, please contact Judy Leitz by
January 14 to let her know who will represent
you at the Team Meeting.
