Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy program is the first of its kind in Stanislaus County to bring youth, public and private organizations together to discuss and explore leadership in innovative ways.
High school juniors and seniors in the program are diverse groups who have demonstrated a potential for leadership and a desire to help their community. Each year we strive to have representation from every high school in the county.
The Leadership Academy is now beginning its 5th year. This means about 150 students have graduated the program and have gone on to use their experience to enhance their educational goals and those of their peers as well.
The Academy is modeled after Leadership Modesto; a program for adults. The fee for adults who are accepted into that program is $1200. When students are accepted into the Leadership Academy program, there is no cost to them, and they are essentially receiving a scholarship valued at over $750.
Upon completion of the Leadership Academy, graduates receive a scholarship check to be applied to continuing education expenses, such as; college applications; SAT test fees; books and materials, College Board fees, etc.
Our program is supported completely by donations and in-kind services from the community. Companies like Mocse, Metro PCS and the Modesto Nuts not only support the Leadership Academy by hosting classes and conducting presentations; they also contribute dollars.
Every dollar donated to the Leadership Academy goes directly to the students, most of it in the form of scholarships. Our goal for this year’s class is to award a $500 check to each graduate. With your participation in tonight’s Graffiti jersey auction, we are several steps closer to achieving that goal.
