Leadership Academy Forges Ahead into the Fall

Leadership Academy held the “Non-Profit and Community Day” on Friday, October 4. Students started the day at the Red Shield Youth Community Center and the Salvation Army Food Warehouse/Distribution Center. Students then traveled to Salvation Army Emergency Shelter facilities and assisted the staff by helping to serve their client’s lunch. Later in the day, students visited the Alexander Cohen Hospice House and the logistics center, where they could help by sorting clothing and donated items for the Hope Chest Thrift Stores.

“Public Safety Day” will follow on November 1. Students will start the day at Modesto Police Department and meet Police Chief Brandon Gillespie, tour the “Real Time Crime Center”, and see demonstrations by MPD’s specialized teams. Students will then travel to the Public Safety Center, where they will see demonstrations by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office specialized teams and tour the Detention Center.
Students look forward to “Education Day” in December, where they will have the opportunity to learn more about the Stanislaus County Office of Education’s role in supporting the community and tour Modesto Junior College and Stanislaus State.
