Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education and Strategic Legal Group, this annual competition provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their listening, speaking, reading, and reasoning skills. Working in teams, students study a hypothetical case, conduct legal research, and receive guidance from volunteer attorneys.  Students gain a working knowledge of the judicial system and an understanding of the relationship between the U.S. Constitution and the law.  Superior Court judges conduct each trial, with law professionals scoring the teams.  This year’s fictitious case, People v. Gold, was a kidnapping trial that involved a pretrial argument on the Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.
