Stanislaus County Office of Education
Stanislaus County Board of Education Fills Open Seat

The Stanislaus County Board of Education appointed Paulo Carvalho to fill the Trustee Area 3 vacancy. The interview and selection process occurred during a special board meeting on Tuesday, May 21. Carvalho took the oath of office during the regular board meeting on June 11 and will serve until the next regular California General Election on November 5, 2024. The candidate elected in the November election will then serve a full term of four years.

Carvalho is a husband, father of three, dairy farmer, and lifelong resident of Stanislaus County. He has served in coaching and refereeing roles at high schools in Modesto and has actively participated in other volunteer opportunities in agriculture. “I have a passion to serve people, particularly the people who live in my community,” said Carvalho. “This position provides such an opportunity where I could give back and help support the vital educational framework of our community.”

Former Area 3 Trustee Kimberly Spina resigned on April 10 for personal reasons. Throughout her 12-year tenure as a Board of Education member, she also served as Vice-Chairperson and Chairperson.
