Teaching students to think critically about issues affecting the United States and increasing their awareness of what it means to be an American are the goals of the American Heritage Scholarship Program. This year marks the 100th anniversary of voting rights for women and on September 9, 2020, a video presentation featuring the Honorable Marie Silveira, retired judge, and Marian Kaanon, CEO and President of the Stanislaus Community Foundation, focused on the 19th Amendment and Women's Right to Vote. The prompt stated: Voting is a basic component of democracy, and who gets the right to cast a ballot has been a contentious issue. Today there is debate over lowering the age for voting. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, consider the efforts made by generations of women to secure the right to vote.
