Over 2,300 Children Receive Free Books Each Month

March 2 marks the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss and the National Education

Association’s Read Across America celebration. Numerous community organizations, including the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE), celebrate early literacy and encourage Stanislaus County’s youngest residents to develop a love for reading.

The Imagination Library, a program supported by SCOE, is pleased to announce that more than 2,300 children from birth to 5 years old are enrolled in the program and receive one book, U.S. mailed to their homes each month. Thanks to community support and donations, the books are free to the children.

To assist with enrolling additional eligible children and sharing information with families about the Imagination Library program, SCOE recently partnered with the Stanislaus County Health Services Agency Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program who received Books For Kids funding. Through this partnership they have enrolled over 700 WIC participants.
