Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) will hold its 3rd annual “Head Start Attendance Awards” on May 21, 2019, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at The Century (927 10th Street, Modesto). SCOE, along with seven partnering school districts and one non-profit organization served 1,345 children and their families countywide in the Head Start program during the 2018-2019 school year.
Thirty-two children, who will enter transitional kindergarten and kindergarten at elementary schools throughout Stanislaus County, and their families will be recognized and awarded for achieving the most improved and highest attendance for the school year. Research shows that school attendance matters, as student achievement is negatively impacted by higher absenteeism rates. Good habits are developed in the early years with young children who attend a preschool program.
The Head Start Attendance Awards is supported by the Head Start program, a grant from the Stanislaus County Education Foundation and the Walmart Foundation, in addition to generous donations from The Century, Karissa Wright Productions, and Trophy Works.
