Become a MENTOR!  SCOE’s mentor program allows employees to spend time with a struggling student at a designated school site.  Mentors help students improve their skills in English and math, plus help build a student's self-esteem and improve social skills.

Listed below are the schools involved with our mentor program.

  • Franklin
  • Muir
  • Shackelford

How the Program Works

SCOE employees form teams of two to three members and meet with the same student from September - May.  Each student is mentored 30-45 minutes twice a week during the employee's lunch hour.  SCOE allows an extra 15 minutes for travel time to and from the school site.

The school’s site coordinator pairs you up with the same student for the entire school year.

Mentor Clearance
At the request of Modesto City Schools,
all SCOE employees who choose to participate in the mentor program will need to undergo DOJ (Department of Justice) clearance, fingerprinting, and TB testing. There is no cost to the employee for these clearances.
