National History Day - Stanislaus

In collaboration with Patterson Joint Unified School District, National History Day is an educational program that encourages 4th-12th grade students to explore local, state, national, and world history. After selecting a historical topic that relates to an annual theme, students conduct extensive research by using libraries, archives, museums, and oral history interviews. Students analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about their topics’ significance in history, and create final projects that present their work. Top students in each category have the opportunity to move on and compete in the State Competition.

Students will select one of these forms to present their research-based findings:

• Performance
• Exhibit
• Paper
• Website
• Poster (4-5 grades only)

There are three divisions:  Elementary (grades 4-5), Junior (Grades 6-8), and Senior (Grades 9-12).  Students may participate as individuals or in groups of two to five students - except for Historical Paper (individual entries only).  The Poster is the only category for the Elementary Division. 

Number of entries allowed is based on total school enrollment:
0-500 students................ up to 5 entries                    501-1,000 students....... up to 10 entries
1,001-1,500 students......up to 20 entries                   1,501 or more students... up to 30 entries
