This project will focus on building up three overlapping multi-tiered systems of support to provide universal prevention strategies for all students, targeted intervention for some and intensive intervention for few. The three MTSS frameworks will focus on behavior, attendance and student mental health. Each framework will organize a continuum of evidence-based nonpunitive programs and practices to support students and improve outcomes. The selection of these programs and practices will be made by school implementation leadership teams using data-driven decision making and collaborative problem solving methods. School teams will participate in professional development opportunities to build capacity on building up and sustaining the MTSS frameworks, and implementing evidence-based practices with fidelity. Key evidence-based activities include implementing Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), using Check-In Check-Out for targeted behavioral intervention, and Prevent, Teach, Reinforce for intensive behavioral intervention. We will provide evidence-based training such as Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) for Suicide Prevention and Eliminating Barriers to Learning, while implementing evidence-based supports for mental health like Cognitive Behavior Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS).
