The State Theatre Youth Education Program - Arts Field Trips
The State Theatre, a 501(c)(3), a privately funded nonprofit organization, places great importance on the education and enrichment of our community's youth. Our goal is to reach youngsters with relevant programs that not only entertain but empower and ignite a passion for learning about the arts. So deeply does The States Board of Directors believe in the value of its Youth Education Program to our community, that all programs, all of which meet California State Content and Common Core Standards and are accompanied by a curriculum guide, are offered to school-age children and their schools at no charge. Our program introduces youngsters to the performing arts, develops arts literacy, and inspires a lifelong appreciation for the arts and the theater-going experience. Many of the children attending The State's YEP are low-income and at-risk, and all fall within the five-county sphere (Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Amador, Tuolumne and Calaveras counties) overseen by The State's partner in these programs, the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE).

Virtual Field Trips
What is a virtual field trip, exactly?
Virtual field trips are authentic digital learning experiences that allow students to explore a topic under a different light, not as a production. This experience provides the opportunity for student to still take a "trip" which will reinforce standards based skills and concepts.
Even though virtual field trips may not explicitly teach social-emotional skills, these skills can be integrated right into the discussions as you learn together. Consider what the setting is, what the social expectations might be, how students might prepare for actually visiting that place, what interactions they might have, and more. This is where virtual field trips solidify their place in a teacher’s bag of pedagogical tricks. These trips provide a sense of adventure, and at the same time a feeling of normalcy.
Where should you go?
The Stanislaus County Office of Education is constructing and curating a cache of virtual field trips with LOCAL businesses. Be sure to check back for new adventures.
