Supporting Student SEL & Well-Being: Universally Designed, Trauma-Informed Artmaking for All 6-12 Classrooms
-
Stanislaus County Office of Education

Discover how trauma-informed artmaking can be a powerful, universally designed strategy to support SEL and well-being for Grades 6-12 students. This workshop is designed with non-arts teachers in mind. The lessons are easy to teach and accessible to everyone—no prior art skills required. Everyone can enjoy and confidently lead these creative experiences! With nearly two-thirds of American students experiencing at least one traumatic event before the age of 16, trauma-informed approaches are essential for fostering emotional resilience and engagement in the classroom. This hands-on, highly interactive workshop series provides educators with practical tools to create safe, healing-centered learning environments where all students can express themselves, reflect, and build self-awareness.

Participants will gain exclusive access to the WAVES curriculum, featuring 35 trauma-informed art projects designed for all educators—no art skill or talent required. Rooted in process over product, WAVES is entirely strength-based and designed to be seamlessly integrated into any classroom environment or course—not just the arts. Whether used as standalone activities or woven into existing curriculum, these lessons provide SEL-focused strategies that support every teacher, regardless of subject area. Backed by over 20 months of data collection, this curriculum has demonstrated significant improvements in student well-being. Walk away with adaptable lesson plans, a replicable framework, and hands-on experience in trauma-informed artmaking that can be implemented across all educational settings.
