What can a primary classroom teacher do to help guarantee that all students in diverse classrooms are successful when working with complex text and utilizing complex language structures? Develop critical thinking skills through high levels of student interaction and engagement with collaborative, challenging and open-ended tasks.

This professional development session will focus on formative assessment, a crucial component of lesson design that provides students and teachers with the information they need to increase learning through immediate feedback. Focus will be on how teachers can increase their ability to monitor student performance during a lesson and give immediate and differentiated support to all students.

Teachers will learn:

· practical strategies and tools to assist with monitoring student performance during all parts of a lesson

· how to provide strategic feedback

· how to use information gathered during formative assessment to adjust instructional plans in ways that increase students’ capacity for higher order thinking.
