Students Gear Up for 17th Annual Stanislaus County Academic Pentathlon

Stanislaus County junior high school students are gearing up for the 17th Annual Stanislaus County Academic Pentathlon.  Approximately 100 students are slated to participate in a series of tests, speeches and essays featuring this year’s theme, “Water – A Most Essential Resource.”   The Super Quiz and Awards Presentation is on Saturday, April 30th at the Martin G. Petersen Event Center, 720 12th Street, Modesto at 1:00 PM. 

Top Spellers Compete at County Spelling Championship

Top spellers from area schools competed in the Stanislaus County Junior High Spelling Championship on December 7 & 8, 2021.  The Junior High Spelling Championship, sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education, is for students in grades 7-8. The contestants competed in the Qualifying Round on December 7, 2021, virtually.  The top spellers advanced to the Competition Round, which was held the following night at the Martin G.

SCOE Receives State and National Recognition for Marketing Efforts

             The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) recently received statewide and national recognition for several marketing projects from the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA) and the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).  Each of these organizations works to create a climate for better public understanding, commitment and support of public education.

Julie Betschart Assumes Role of Stanislaus County Office of Education Deputy Superintendent

Julie Betschart has taken the position of Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) Deputy Superintendent in the Business Services Division following the retirement of former Deputy Superintendent Don Gatti. This change was effective July 1, 2021.  Betschart has a 28-year history in education beginning at Oakdale Joint Unified in 1993 and spanning to present-day.  She worked with Modesto City Schools for 11 years before moving to SCOE in 2017, where she most recently served as Business Services Senior Director.

Enochs Takes First Place in 41st Annual Stanislaus County Virtual Academic Decathlon

Due to COVID-19, the Stanislaus County Academic Decathlon was a virtual event.  Hailed as the biggest academic event for local high schools, the decathlon is a series of tests, speeches and interviews featuring this year’s theme, “The Cold War.”  Speech and Interview presentations were conducted by Zoom, while essay and objective testing were completed online.  Students continued their late-night study sessions and team practices remotely.
