Student: Ruby Ochoa, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Special Day Class. Tricia Tariku, Principal.
It was with great pride that our DHH team at Hart Ransom Elementary School nominated Ruby Ochoa for the Every Student Succeeding Award. She is a shining example of a student who has had many struggles in her short life and has worked to overcome them and be successful. Ruby was born deaf. Her family sought help for Ruby and worked with doctors, audiologists and school staff to give her as many opportunities as possible for success. Despite the interventions Ruby exhibited challenges that interfered with her progress in many areas of development. She didn’t want to participate in classroom activities and often exhibited difficult and challenging behaviors. The SCOE staff along with Ruby’s family never gave up and worked diligently to get Ruby on the path to success.
Today Ruby is a happy, healthy 6th grade student who is enjoying life. She asked to have her cochlear implant turned back on last school year. She works hard at school every day and has shown tremendous growth and success. She is mainstreaming into general education for math and P.E. Everyone, including her parents, are so thrilled with the progress and successes they have seen! Keep up the good work Ruby!
